Have you ever wished you just had a resource that listed many of the no no ingredients while cross checking your labels. Above is a list I keep handy and find it super helpful when eyeballing ingredient labels. Screenshot this list and keep it in your back pocket when you are out shopping and cross check your labels with this list.

There are several helpful resources that I personally use to research. I am always ready to learn more and more and I learn all of my ingredient knowledge through multiple resources and then choose products that work for our family through trial and error. I look for clean, organic, toxin free, safe, & ecocert ingredients when possible. Check out the list below:

♥EWG.org (Pro tip: search the ingredient name you’re looking for followed by EWG in google and it will probably bring up the exact research page you’re looking for!) This website is not full proof but will give you a fantastic opportunity to learn further about your products and ingredients.

♥Think Dirty App – this resource is also not full proof BUT you can scan product labels and get a ranking of 0-9. I try to stay within 0-2.

♥BCPP.org – this website gives a lot of scientific information on products, stores, labels, and ingredients as their mission is Breast Cancer Prevention.

♥Safecosmetics.org – another great article/research based resource.

♥Draxe.com – breaks down nutrients and ingredients through articles that are backed by research.

♥Pubmed.gov – actual scientific studies

I never rely solely on one resource and here is why…. EWG for example is an incredibly helpful resource to use. The organization is amazing abs I am so grateful to have them advocating for us. But, like most anything else it does have a few discrepancies. Which is why my number one goal is to help you learn to read labels and recognize toxic ingredients hoping to create mindful, conscious consumers. It’s one thing to know that you’re using toxic products. But so many of us have been duped in the past…or are continuing to be duped and don’t know it!

There are a few different ways a company can get rated — one of which is to pay for the EWG verified label. Which in turn leads to toxic products having skewed ratings.

This graphic is a perfect example of 2 different products, both with a rating of “2” from EWG.

However, if you look closer at the actual ingredients, you will find a BIG discrepancy and see that individually the ingredients rank higher and are not safe.

Quick lesson?

♥LEARNING TO READ LABELS AND INGREDIENT LISTS IS THE BEST WAY TO BECOME A CONSCIOUS CONSUMER. I PROMISE IT GETS EASIER AND YOU’LL EVENTUALLY BE ABLE TO QUICKLY SKIM A LABEL AND KNOW IF IT’S SOMETHING YOU WANT IN YOUR HOME!♥

Here is another example showcasing Dawn dish soap (see graphic below). This product is full of multiple red flags.

Just scroll through those ingredients…they’re even individually labeled as ‘C’ and ‘D’ scores yet the total rating is ‘A’ on EWG.

What?!? That doesn’t make sense!!

Apps like EWG and Think Dirty are great, and especially helpful in the beginning of your journey, but they should act as a 𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑝𝑜𝑖𝑛𝑡, not an 𝑒𝑛𝑑𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑝𝑜𝑖𝑛𝑡.
